Elle's Online Site
I first examined Elle's site, and the most interesting feature on the page was how to still be stylish during our country's economy crisis. Some may be thinking good bye Barneys hello Salvation Army, (i happen to like the vintage t's at the salvation army for 25 cents,) but this article shows that just because you cant shop at the more upscale boutiques, doesn't mean you have to resort to your pajamas. The article advises that wearing a simple white t-shirt can easily be dressed up into a cute day time outfit. I liked how this article uses working succesful women instead of those stick thin model as the example for "Recession Style Chic." This way, women can relate to the article better rather than having a high fashion model used as the example. In particular i loved loved loved the white t shirt accessory seen on Corie Rosenburg, since I live in Haynes white t-shirts. The article notes that during times like this you don't need to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe, but if u look at your closest carefully you can just recycle outfits and make them new. All in all I thought this was a clever article and can really appeal to women now
Vogues Online Site....
......I was less impressed with. Viewing the different topics I found that it wasn't as up to date as Elle's. One section even had the Fall fashion trends of 2008. I mean, were already passed winter, and the fashion magazines should be focusing on Cruise Wear. I was hoping to find in the Trends +Shopping section some new spring trends, but found last fall's floral patterns. belle sleeves, and country like clothing. For such a top of the line prestigious magazine, you would think someone would be on top of an online site. But i cant complain about all of it thought. I did like their fashion show section, and to my surprise it was updated with Springs 2009 collection, even though New York City's spring fashion show week hasn't come around yet. I thought the article about one of fashions guru's ,Phillip Lim, was well written and gave a detailed note about what is to be expected from the designers spring collection.
It was nice to venture off into the world wide web and explore the fashion sites, but I still enjoy sitting down old fashion style, with a good 300 page magazine taking up most of my morning.

Hey, where is everybody?
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised that Vogue does such a crummy job compared to Elle--I thought Vogue was the IT magazine for fashion...they need to hire a techie and get themselves up to date!
Hey Eden, do Elle and Vogue have quizzes in them? Or is that just Cosmo? I used to love taking those, years ago! Maybe you could do a post on those...
I really loved reading what you wrote about the Elle online site..I think I'm going to have to go check that out because I also love my comfy, white t-shirts. Especially since I'm going to college next year, I think it would be a good idea to get some ideas. Yeah, I'm really surprised about the Vogue site too. And I like the post on quizzes idea.
ReplyDeletethis is really interesting. I don't really read those magazines.. at all.. but I still like reading what you wrote on them.
ReplyDeleteThe thing I like about Vogue and Elle is that, being fashion mags, I don't have to flip through them all in one sitting. I like to spread them out in the span of two weeks and collect ideas for new trends when I have the time. I like having my own types of style so it's not a big deal to me if I'm not exactly on top of the latest trends. But it's still nice to have pointers! : )
ReplyDeleteI honestly cannot relate to this, but, it's neat to read someone else's perspective.
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings on the whole internet and hard copy issue. I love reading the newspaper, but I too love reading online. They both have their advantages. For example, on one hand, I feel that newspapers are better written and often possess less grammatical and syntactical errors. However, on the other hand, I like the fact that when an article is online it can be updated and changed as the story evolves.
ReplyDeleteDo you know if more people read online or in the magazines? I personally am more inclined to flip through magazines than scroll through web pages..
ReplyDeleteLike Jeff i was hesitant to read the online sites, but technology is moving forward so I thought I would check it out, I actually go on Elle's online site alot more now, which I happen to really like.
ReplyDeleteRobin-I agree with you, i most deff prefer actually reading the magazine and getting the whole experience, but some people might not want to pay for the magazine, but it is important to remember that not eveyrhting in the monthly issue will be online
ReplyDeleteAnother fact about the internet is that it's free! What better way to reach the masses than through a costless source? If I were as enthusiastic about fashion magazines as I am about hard journalism, I would probably do both hard copy and online reading.
ReplyDeleteGreat article....maybe you should contact Vogue and tell them that they are way behind on their website....they might pay you for noticing...i am not really interested in the fashion magazines web sites...i actually perfer the magazines themselves.... yes I am aware of what I'm saying...i am a guy and yes I like looking at the magazines....I am very secure of my masculinity....LOL
ReplyDeleteAlso, what did the websites give that the magazines didn't have?
